Excavate Your Own Gemstone With The Gemstone Dig Kit By Dr. Cool

Let me start by saying how cool the Gemstone Dig Kit is! When I received it, I can't help but think about excavating the gemstones myself. LOL. :) BUT! In the end, I let my daughters, who are 3 and 6, excavate the gemstones with supervision from me.

Dr. Cool's Gemstone Dig Kit came in a nice and interesting box. The instructions are visible inside the cover flap of the box and the contents of the box are visible by opening the cover flap of the box. There's also an illustration of the 3 gemstones which can be found inside the purple digging brick.

My daughters couldn't wait to open the kit and dig for the gemstones.

I opened it and saw the following contents inside the Gemstone Dig Kit:
- 1 purple digging brick
- 1 excavation tool
- 1 brush
- magnifying glass
- activity booklet

When I finally told them they can start digging, they couldn't contain their excitement. The purple digging brick has a nice shiny design, a smooth texture and is hard. It's really pretty and I like the details on the digging brick.

Before we started digging, I placed A LOT of newspapers on the floor because I had a notion that this activity will get a bit messy.

I tried digging into the purple digging brick first and told my 6 year old daughter how the excavation tool works. I also told her to be careful and both of them were under my supervision while they dig for the gemstones. The excavation tool is made of plastic and although it did its job, I would say having a metal or wood excavation tool would help in digging for the gemstones easier.

The inside of the purple digging brick has a light gray color. It is a bit hard to dig into the purple digging brick and my 6 year old daughter spent about 2 hours to excavate the 3 gemstones. My 3 year old daughter's job was to brush away the powdered remnants of the digging brick to expose the gemstones inside.

Seeing the exposed part of the gemstones in the digging brick is really exciting. I really wanted to be the one to excavate them out but since my 6 year old daughter wanted to be the one to dig them out, I let her do it.

I was surprised with the size of the gemstones, specially the Tiger's Eye. I was thinking the gemstones buried are small but I was glad they were big. Both my daughters like the Amethyst the most because of the purple color.

This is a great indoor activity and my daughters had fun doing this. They didn't stop until they excavated all the gemstones and were very happy when they dug them all out.
