I've tried everything to get my 6 year old daughter to sleep earlier BUT she still can't sleep early. I've tried waking her up earlier, playing outside in the afternoon, giving her a cup of warm milk before bedtime, and the likes but she still has a hard time sleeping.
When I got the Good Night, Sleep Tight Reward Chart from Victoria Chart Company, Inc., I was excited to try it to see if it'll help my 6 year old daughter sleep earlier.
The Good Night, Sleep Tight Reward Chart works by providing a complete system to help parents create a good, solid bedtime routine.
The Good Night, Sleep Tight Reward Chart pack includes:
- 1 Large Chart (17" x 11")
- 48 reusable gold star stickers
- 130 reusable smiley stickers
- information sheet
- Dry erase pen
- sticky mounting pads
I opened the pack and my daughters couldn't wait to put stickers on it.
I like that there are pictures for each task. The pictures on each task helped my daughters a lot to recognize and identify the task. For my 6 year old daughter who has just started to read, she can read the words slowly but for my 3 year old who relies on pictures, the small pictures beside the word helped a lot.
They put a sticker to the tasks they've both done already. They took turns in putting the sticker on. :)
The 5th task was put off on hold for a few minutes because my 6 year old daughter didn't want to do the task yet. Wanna guess what it is? It's the I'm getting to bed task. She did however went back a few minutes later and decided that she'll do the last task so she can put the sticker on. After she placed the sticker on, they both went to bed. The first night for the rewards chart, she just laid in bed but didn't ask for anything anymore. She was asleep about an hour later.
My 6 year old daughter was pretty consistent in sleeping earlier than her usual sleeping time and for the reward, which is, if she follows the chart everyday, she'll get a dollar at the end of the week. My 3 year old didn't have any problems following the chart and sleeping early but she still asked for a reward. :)
My thoughts:
- The stickers are cute and reusable. Similar to other reusable stickers, stickiness lessens as you remove and handle the stickers.
- The chart is colorful and looks nice.
- The pictures helped my 3 year old identify the task.
- There are only 5 days in the chart and it's nice if they add 2 more days for a complete week.
- The chart helped my daughters, well my 6 year old for that matter, go to bed earlier than her usual time.
I like how the Good Night, Sleep Tight Reward Chart helps my daughters stay consistent with their bedtime routine. They look forward to doing the tasks and completing a week to get their reward. I think with time, my 6 year old daughter would be used to sleeping earlier and I'll be able to fix her habit of sleeping late.
