6 Things My Daughters Learned While Playing With Shopkins #Shopkins #spkfan

http://jessaminedungo.blogspot.com
Shopkins is the new craze among children! I can attest to that because my 2 daughters, who are 3 and 6, SPECIALLY my younger one, LOVES Shopkins! Whenever we go to Target or Walmart, we would stop by the "Shopkins" aisle and see if they have the Shopkins Baskets and the 5 and 12-packs available so they can complete their Shopkins collection.

If you're not familiar with Shopkins, ask almost any kid and they'll tell you about it! LOL. Shopkins are these little figures which are really cute! Each Shopkins figure has a name and is classified into different categories like Fruits and Veggies, Bakery, etc. What my daughters really, really love (aside from they love everything Shopkins) is opening the blind bags because inside them are "surprise" Shopkins which range from the common ones to the Limited Edition ones. My daughters haven't gotten any Limited Edition Shopkins yet but they're still hoping!

Before, we only look for the Season 1 Shopkins (and boy, were they hard to find back then!), but now that the SHOPKINS SEASON 2 is already out in the market, my daughters can't contain their excitement about the newest Shopkins. I've found a Season 2 12-pack and some Baskets a few weeks before Christmas (and bought a few for them) BUT after that, they weren't available anymore. Amazon sells them for a much, much higher (DOUBLE?!) the price so I do not dare purchase Shopkins on Amazon.

Since my daughters LOVE Shopkins, I've decided to write a blog post on the 6 Things My Daughters Learned While Playing Shopkins.
http://jessaminedungo.blogspot.com
1. SHOPKINS HELP IMPROVE MY DAUGHTERS' MEMORY

You might say WHAT?! But here's my explanation. I honestly don't know most of the Shopkins' names BUT my 3 year old daughter does! I am surprised that she knows almost all of the Shopkins' names. Each type of the Shopkins figure have 2 colors available and she knows almost every Shopkins in Season 1! I think this is amazing because she memorized their names in such a short period of time so for me, it helped improve her memory because she was able to memorize their names.

2. SHOPKINS IS GREAT FOR PRETEND AND CREATIVE PLAY

My daughters love giving life to their Shopkins. They would spend about an hour each day doing these silly voices for each Shopkins and doing pretend scenarios. I love watching them do these different tiny little voices and bobbing their Shopkins up and down like they were really talking. I love how they play pretend with the Shopkins because I believe pretend and creative play is healthy for a growing child. Pretend play for me, helps widen their imaginations.

3. SHOPKINS TAUGHT MY DAUGHTERS HOW TO BE ORGANIZED

Sooo, throughout the day, the toybox would become empty and most of my daughters' toys lie scattered on the floor after they play and clean-up time is the most hated part (for them) after playing. They would reason out that they're hungry, or they're tired or whatever reason they can give me when I say "CLEAN UP TIME". The word seems to create an automatic reaction from them to protest and complain (honestly, deep inside I think it's funny and cute, but I always show them a serious face and would firmly tell them to clean up). With the Shopkins, my daughters have a separate small plastic drawer for their Shopkins. I am super happy and proud that every time they've finished playing with their Shopkins, they would neatly arrange them again in their drawer. These are small figures so I am surprised that they still have all the Shopkins I bought for them. I don't need to tell them to clean up their Shopkins. They just do it willingly and on their own..

4. THEY LEARN HOW TO SHARE AND TAKE TURNS

My daughters have some favorite Shopkins and a few of those are both their favorites. I told them they can only keep 1 of each type of Shopkins so the doubles are kept somewhere else because it would make their drawer REALLY FULL. They sometimes almost always have a problem with sharing, specially my younger one. With the Shopkins, they learned how to share their favorites and to take turns playing with them.

5. SHOPKINS TAUGHT MY DAUGHTERS HOW TO BE ACCOUNTABLE (A BIT)

They may not know the word accountable yet but I noticed how they keep tabs on their Shopkins collection. My 3 year old daughter, who is the more Shopkins fanatic, knows EACH Shopkins she has. I would give her the "checklist flyer" (that's what she calls them) and she would check off every Shopkins she has. She knows when a Shopkins is missing and wouldn't stop until she finds it.

6. SHOPKINS ENCOURAGE GROUP PLAY AND FRIENDLINESS

Once we're at Starbucks and my daughters brought some of their Shopkins there. A little girl approached them and said "Ooohh. Are those Shopkins?". Then, they were playing like the 3 of them were good old friends. My 6 year old daughter is the friendly type while my 3 year old daughter is the shy type. In this situation, she immediately played with a new friend (which she doesn't do!) so for me, this promotes group play and friendliness.

I'm not a big fan of small toys because my daughters just tend to lose them but, Shopkins have impressed me a lot. My daughters would often lose interest in their toys a few days after they play with it but the Shopkins held (and is still holding) their interest, specially my 3 year old. For my 3 year old daughter who has a short attention span, these cute little Shopkins are still her favorite toy. :)

HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT SHOPKINS? WHO IS YOUR OR YOUR CHILD'S FAVORITE SHOPKINS?

    1. Thanks Lissa! :) Yes they are adorable and my daughters never grow tired of playing with their Shopkins and then fixing them after. I first thought that they would just lose these Shopkins because they were so small but I was surprised and amazed that they still have every piece we bought. :)

    1. Thanks Wendy! Oh, I wish my daughters would always share. These are one of the few toys that they're willing to share with one another. Maybe because they need to play pretend and give voices to each Shopkins they're playing with.

They are really adorable and the little bags and baskets are super cute too.

  24. My little boy (4, almost 5) loves shopkin so and it annoys me how much they and the clothes etc. are marketed for girls! He did get into them through his older sister but he really loves all little collectable things and Shopkins really hold his attention/imagination.
