Real Bug Dig Kit From Discover With Dr. Cool Review

A few months ago, I did a review on Discover with Dr. Cool's Gemstone Dig Kit (READ MY REVIEW HERE) and my daughters had a blast digging for the gemstones. Recently, I was sent the Real Bug Dig Kit and my daughters, who are 3 and 6, were super excited to "dig" for the bugs.

The Real Bug Dig Kit arrived in black box with a preview of what my daughters would be able to find inside the green beetle.

The Real Insect Excavation Kit box contained the following:

- digging block shaped like a green beetle
- a genuine spiny spider, fortune beetle, & scorpion preserved in acrylic.
- digging tool, brush and magnifying glass.
- 12-page info guide which is filled with cool science facts about insects and was written by teachers.
- Activity booklet which contains 10 wonderful puzzles and games for hours of extra fun and learning.

There's also a stand-up cardboard included with a picture of the forest.

I set-up scratch papers under the excavation kit so that it wouldn't be too messy after my daughters finish excavating the 3 bugs from the digging block.

The digging tools included were similar to the Gemstone Dig Kit before so my daughters were already familiar on how to use them. My 6 year old daughter started digging using the digging tool which is made of plastic. The digging block is a bit hard and the inside is similar to a hardened white chalk when dug.

My 3 year old daughter had fun using the small brush to brush away the dirt to reveal the first insect they dug out.

They were super excited when they showed me the first insect they dug out. :)

My daughters had fun digging the 3 bug specimens and I love how educational this activity is. They were covered with white chalk, which looked super cute because they look like they really went to an excavation site.

I also like the information guide and the activity booklet included in the box because it adds up to the facts about insects my daughters learned. This has won the award: Brain Toy Gold Award - Academic's Choice 2013.

The Real Bug Dig Kit from Discover with Dr. Cool is a nice indoor activity and since it takes time to excavate the bug specimens, it kept my daughters entertained for a long time. It's very educational and at the same time fun to do. :)
