Explore Life Under The Water With Nancy B Science Club's Aquascope

#educationalinsights.jpg
My daughter is fascinated with ocean creatures. When I received the Nancy B's Science Club Aquascope & Underwater Wonders Activity Journal, I knew exactly that my 6 year old daughter would love this. For this review though, I would focus more on describing the Aquascope and how we tried it on our apartment complex' swimming pool because we haven't had the chance to go to the beach yet since we received it.

The Nancy B's Aquascope came in a nice box. It came in 1 piece and has a journal included and instructions for the aquascope. I read the instructions and put on batteries for the built-in LED flashlight.

The Underwater Wonders Activity Journal has lots of fun activities inside. There are spaces and circles to draw and document what my daughter will see when we go to the beach.

The Aquascope has a nice design and color combination. The drawings of sea creatures on the side of the green tube are nice. There's a built-in thermometer stripe at the top of the aquascope as well as a ruler on the other side. The built-in LED light is bright and can be turned on or off with a push of a button. There is also a waterline mark so that water wouldn't go in the aquascope.

The two gray tubes can be removed from the Aquascope so that only a viewing tube is left. It's effective to view what's under the water without magnification.

When we tried the Aquascope in the swimming pool, it was easy to focus under the water but the gray tubes kept sliding down. I had to help my daughter stabilize it by holding it and supporting the Aquascope. We didn't see any difference with the LED light because the water is clear so I can't say if the LED light will shine bright enough under water. The thermometer strip works and shows a temperature reading but I can't say if it displays the right temperature.

After trying out the Aquascope in the pool, my 6 year old daughter couldn't wait for us to visit the beach and I can't wait to see if the Aquascope would let us see creatures living under the sea. :)

Space Spinner Game From Educational Insights Review

EducationalInsights.jpg
Most educational toys of my daughters require batteries to work. I received the Space Spinners Game from Educational Insights and it's one of the few educational, fun and exciting game which doesn't need batteries to work.

EducationalInsights.jpg
The Space Spinners Game includes the following:

  • 4 Flying Saucer Spinner Ships
  • 1 Mother Ship
  • 24 Colored Balls
  • 4 Bases
  • Instructions
The rules and instructions are very easy to understand. To simplify it, the goal is to race to put all the player's fuel balls into the mother ship while using the flying saucer spinner ship to pick up the balls from the bases. There are only 3 rules for the game so my 3 and 6 year old daughter understood it easily.

EducationalInsights.jpg
My 6 year old daughter easily learned how to pick up the balls using the spinner ship but my 3 year old daughter had to practice in order to pick up the balls. It's understandable because this game is for children ages 6+ so I was glad my 3 year old learned how to pick up the balls with her spinner ship too.

The game is fast paced and although my 6 year old daughter always wins, my 3 year old daughter is always challenged to do her best to try to win. This game doesn't require batteries and it helps practice hand and eye coordination by using the spinner ship while keeping their eyes on the mother ship.

Both my daughters were amazed why the balls kept spinning and I told them it was because of "centrifugal force". They couldn't say it straight but I think they understood the idea.

The Space Spinner Game from Educational Insights is very fun and exciting and I like how my daughters loved playing with it.

You can purchase the Space Spinner Game on Amazon for $17.88 with free shipping if you have Prime.

Teach The Value Of Money With Chet The Cat and Friends' Toddler Money #educationalinsights

#educationalinsights.jpg
My daughters love playing pretend. They have a small grocery store at the corner of our living room and a toy cash register. They have small paper bills and the super small plastic coins I bought from Target. The problem with these small plastic coins is that my daughters tend to lose the small plastic coins. With the paper bills, they tend to rip it or crumple it because it's made of paper. I would now and then buy them a new set of paper money bills and plastic coins so that they can continue playing with their pretend grocery store.

When they saw the Chet the Cat's Toddler Money, they were surprised by how big the bills and the coins were. Each set includes:

- 4 Jumbo coins (1 each of a penny, nickel, dime and quarter)
- 3 jumbo tear-proof bills (1 each of $1, $5 and $10)

My 3 year old daughter opened the pack of Chet The Cat Toddler Money.

The bills each measure 8" by 3.375". The bills felt smooth, is bendy and really tear-proof. The print of the bill is also very nice and clear. The coins are made of plastic. All the coins are made of plastic and measure 0.25" thick and each coin has the following diameter: Penny - 2.125", Nickel - 2.5", Dime - 2", Quarter - 2.275". All the coins have a nice, clear and embossed design.

With the Chet the Cat and Friends' Toddler Money my daughters grasped the ideas of:

  • Sharing and Taking Turns - they learn how to share and take turns being the shopper and the owner of the shop.
  • Money - my 6 year old knows how to recognize numbers already so she can tell how much a bill is. My 3 year old daughter can now differentiate a $1, $5 or $10 bill. We're still working on the coins but we're getting there. :)
  • Value of Money - they may not know how to add or subtract money yet but they learned how to pay for the things they bought (from their pretend grocery) and how they can get change for something they bought.
  • Good Manners - every time they pay, they would say yes please, no please, thank you and have a good day. They learned how to be pleasant and courteous.
  • Cleaning Up - I think this is every child's nightmare. LOL. My daughters know that after they play pretend grocery shopping, they would have to clean up all their mess and to keep their Toddler Money in a specific place.
The Chet the Cat and Friends' Toddler Money is a great way to introduce toddlers and small children to money. The bills are big and tear-free and the coins are big and made of plastic. It's a great way to introduce little ones to the idea of money.

You can purchase Chet the Cat and Friends' Toddler Money on Amazon for $12.99 with free shipping if you have Prime.

Discover The Sky At Night With Nancy B's Science Club Moonscope #educationalinsights

#educationalinsights.jpg
I was super excited when we received Nancy B's Science Club Moonscope from Educational Insights. Why? Because I haven't really used a moonscope before and I wanted my 6 year old daughter to learn how to use it with me. :)
#educationalinsights.jpg
The Nancy B's Moonscope and Sky Gazer activity Journal arrived in a nice looking box. I was so excited to try it when we received the box.
#educationalinsights.jpg
The Moonscope needed to be assembled so I had to read the instructions first. The instructions were very easy to understand and I set the Moonscope up in about 5 minutes. It's lightweight and the tripod works well to support the moonscope if it's in a stable and flat surface. It almost toppled over when my 3 year old daughter accidentally hit it so I do suggest anchoring it for added safety.

I familiarized myself with the parts of the moonscope and how to use it. My 6 year old daughter was beside me and I explained to her what the moonscope is and how to use it.

#educationalinsights.jpg
I set up the moonscope on our front porch and following the tips on how to use the moonscope, I first tried to focus on the trees in broad daylight. I tried the 2 eyepieces included to see if I can focus them properly. The moonscope is easy to use in broad daylight and I had no problems focusing it. My 6 year old daughter though, wasn't ready to learn how to focus the moonscope yet. The suggested age for the moonscope is children age 8 and up so I had no worries with that. She can however peek through the moonscope and see what I focused on.

It's easy to focus the moonscope in broad daylight but at night, it's a different story. It's harder to focus the moonscope. We're waiting for the full moon next month to see if we can focus on the moon. My daughter is excited to view the moon through the moonscope. :)

The journal has lots of fun and educational activities and I can't wait to help my daughter finish it.

#educationalinsights.jpg
The built-in red light doesn't interfere with the moonscope and it's effective in viewing the journal in the dark.

I do suggest that they provide a container for the eyepieces to minimize the risk of accidentally losing the eyepieces and moon filter and to protect the eyepieces too.

You can purchase the Nancy B's Science Club Moonscope on Amazon.

Nancy B's Science Club Microscope From Educational Insights Review #educationalinsights

#educationalinsights.jpg
I have a B.S. in Medical Technology and currently a stay-at-home mom. I have 2 daughters age 3 and 6 and I specifically chose to review this microscope for my 6 year old daughter.

I can say I know a lot about microscope and how to use one because we had intensive lab hours when I was studying. We started studying plant cells to human cells to body fluids and different kinds of parasites and microorganisms. There were A LOT!
#educationalinsights.jpg

I want to introduce my daughters, my 6 year old specifically at this time, to the amazing things she can see under the microscope. I want her to learn how a small dot to the naked eye can be an insect or something else under the microscope.

#educationalinsights.jpg
The Educational Insights' Nancy B's Science Club Microscope is a great product to start young children and kids on the things they can see under a microscope.

The microscope itself is made of plastic and operates on 3xAAA batteries. This is a simple microscope and my 6 year old daughter learned how to focus the lens up to the 100x magnification. There are also 4 prepared slides with several specimens included which is nice.
 #educationalinsights.jpg
There's a journal included for suggested activities and my daughter asked me to help her with the cheek cell experiment. I helped her focus the cheek cell specimen on the 400x magnification and she was super excited to see them. :)
#educationalinsights.jpg

This microscope is great for young kids because it works. It's very simple and easy to use and perfect for beginner scientist. The recommended age of the Nancy B's Microscope is for children ages 8 and up but my 6 year old daughter used it with no problem. :)

#educationalinsights.jpg

This microscope has 3 magnifications, 30x, 100x and 400x and has 2 light-settings. One light setting shines on top of the specimen, giving a top view of the specimen and the other light setting shines below the specimen (under the stage) to give a view of the specimen's structure.
#educationalinsights.jpg
The extra accessories were also very cute. There was a plastic scalpel, some vials and test tube, a stirring rod, pipette, petri dish, and tweezers. It really seemed like she was in a laboratory and she loved it. :)

I love the extra slides, cover slips and labels although the cover slips are just clear stickers, they actually work for this microscope. I helped my daughter get an aphid (a very tiny insect, looks like a dot) in our bell pepper leaves and we viewed this under the microscope. I showed her the top view of the insect and the view from below. She was creeped out at how that small, dot-like insect looked like under the microscope. LOL.

I love how the Nancy B's Science Club Microscope. It is far from a real microscope but this is great for a starter microscope specially younger children. I wouldn't have to worry about my daughter destroying expensive microscope lenses. The magnification works nice and I just wish there were more slides and cover slips available because my daughter wanted to view lots of different things. :)

You can purchase Nancy B's Science Club Microscope on Amazon for $24.65 with free shipping if you have Prime.

GeoSafari Jr.'s Underwater Explorer Boat From Educational Insights

#educationalinsights.jpg
My daughters love playing with water. They love taking a bath (they take a bath longer than me because they have tons of toys in the bathtub and they play), swimming, jumping on muddy puddles (the few times it rained here in SoCal, they jumped on all the muddy puddles they saw), playing with the sprinklers, and maybe everything that has to do with splashing around.

#educationalinsights.jpg
The Underwater Explorer Boat by GeoSafari Jr. has a simple and cute design. The bottom of the boat is made of clear plastic with a 3x magnifier on one side. This feature of the boat enabled my daughters to know what they can see underwater and at the same time, magnify an object by placing the part of the boat with the magnifier on top of the object. The orange rubber floatee which is attached to the boat with a black string can be used as a pretend toy (to save toys in trouble) or as a wrist holder so the boat wouldn't float away (when my daughters are in the pool). The steering wheel and propellers at the back rotates which for my 3 year old is amazing. :) The boat has a nice size and is great for pretend play too. My daughters had lots of fun playing rescue boat with the GeoSafari Jr.'s Underwater Explorer Boat.

My daughters made a video of the GeoSafari Jr.'s Underwater Explorer Boat and made a story out of it too. :) Please watch, hit like and/or comment and they'll love it! :)

The GeoSafari Jr.'s Underwater Explorer Boat is great for toddlers and young kids. It's a nice way to discover what's beneath the water and great for pretend play too.

Learn and Tell Jokes and Riddles With The Riddle Show #educationalinsights

#EducationalInsights.jpg

One day, my 6 year old daughter came home from school and has been telling jokes and riddles which doesn't make sense. LOL. I have a great feeling she heard jokes and riddles at school and tried to invent her own. :) When I received The Riddle Show from Educational Insights, I had a feeling she'd love it. :)

#educationalinsights.jpg
The Riddle Show from Educational Insights is an electronic microscope with 145+ riddles, jokes and tongue twisters. It has a working microphone to amplify the voice, music and sound effects, light effects and a 2-setting volume.

You can watch the video above of my 2 daughters showing how The Riddle Show is used.

Here are my thoughts about The Riddle Show:

- There are 4 buttons on The Riddle Show. My daughters, who are 3 and 6, knew what the buttons are for after I told them what they're for. The buttons are as follows:

  •  Riddle Button - has a question mark image. When pressed, it tells a riddle.
  • Joke Button - has a smiley face image. When pressed, it tells a joke and at random times, a tongue twister.
  • Answer Button - has the letter A. When pressed, it tells the answer to the riddle or joke.
  • Repeat Button - has 2 arrows forming a circle image. When pressed, it repeats the riddle or the joke.
- It has a 2-volume setting. I love electronic toys with a volume setting because sometimes, the volume just gets too loud. With the 2-volume setting, I can adjust the volume of the microphone. Oh and there's an off button too.
- The riddles are quite easy to understand. My 6 year old daughter can answer almost all the riddles. My 3 year old daughter however, doesn't understand it yet. She loves guessing though so that's nice. :)
- The jokes are age-appropriate and funny. They make me laugh too. Both my daughters can't answer the jokes yet but they laugh when they hear the answer.
- The microphone works! My daughters love to sing so if they're not listening to jokes and riddles, they use it TO SING. LOL. It's loud enough to magnify their voices and they love it! To activate the microphone, one of the 4 buttons should be pressed.
- The microphone produces a feedback if it's too near an object. Similar to a normal microphone, we did hear that painful "screech" when my daughters place it face down on the floor, sofa or any object. It also sometimes get a feedback when it's placed too near the mouth.
- The flashing lights is nice. I love the flashing lights because it adds up to the effect of pretending to be a show host.
- The batteries are already included! The Riddle Show uses 3xAAA batteries and it's already included. :)
- The Riddle Show enhances critical thinking because my daughters need to think about the answer to the riddle or joke.
- Listening skills and comprehension is also taught. They listen intently to the riddle or joke so that they can answer it.

I like The Riddle Show because it's easy to use and very fun and entertaining for young kids. It teaches them early critical thinking and listening skills as well as build their confidence to face an audience.

You can purchase The Riddle Show on Amazon for $17.79 with free shipping if you have Prime.

Introduce Preschoolers To Science With Geosafari Jr.'s My First Microscope #educationalinsights

GeoSafariJrMyFirstMicroscope.jpg
I graduated in the Philippines with a B.S. in Medical Technology, and so did my mom and my sister. I might've mentioned this before in one of my previous posts and I'm sharing this again now because whenever I see and review toys related to science, specially one that is related to a laboratory, I can't help but become excited and giddy. Why? Maybe because I want my daughters to know and be aware of the beauty and wonder of science and maybe, just maybe, become a medical technnologist or clinical laboratory scientist in the future like me.

One of the things I mastered when I was studying? Operating the microscope. I knew every part of the microscope and I marvel at the different types of cells, parasites, sediments and other microorganisms from different kinds of body fluids we examine under the microscope. Of course I can go on and on and tell you about my college life BUT I have to stick to why I'm writing this post.

So after the long introduction, can you guess why I opened up about my college days.

Well, if you guessed that my post is about a microscope, then you're right! Just that, my review would be a microscope for young kids.
GeoSafariJrMyFirstMicroscope.jpg
I've mentioned above that I want my daughters to be aware of the beauty and wonder of science. I have 2 daughters, ages 3 and 6,and I see that they're interested in a lot of things. I was so happy when Educational Insights contacted me to review the GeoSafari Jr.'s My First Microscope because I can introduce a simple and basic microscope for my daughters.
GeoSafariJrMyFirstMicroscope.jpg
GeoSafari Jr.'s My First Microscope is made out of plastic. It has a magnification of up to 8x and has two extra-large eyepieces. The focusing knob is chunky and easy to use. The sample tray is large and can hold flat and 3D objects. No need for slides! There's also a LED light for enhanced viewing of small details. This toy needs 3xAAA batteries for the LED light which is not included.
GeoSafariJrMyFirstMicroscope.jpg
When I got the microscope out, I was amazed by how cute it is. My daughters couldn't wait to try it out.

Check out my daughters' how-to use the GeoSafari Jr.'s My First Microscope video. They'd love it if you click the thumbs up or leave a comment on their video. :)

So after trying out the GeoSafari Jr.'s My First Microscope, here are my thoughts:

- Super simple to operate and meant for younger kids. I think this is for kids 5 and under because of its simplicity. :)
- The rubbery knob makes it easier for young kids to grasp and turn.
- The 2 extra-large viewing eyepieces are great for those little eyes. My 3 year old daughter didn't have a hard time peeking through the eyepieces.
- The stage light helps to brighten the stage and to see the specimen (toys, flowers, coins, etc.) better if it's a bit dark.
- The stage light doesn't have an automatic off button. I do prefer toys to have an automatic shut-off feature because my daughters almost always forgets to turn their electronic toys off. On the brighter side, they can learn how to be responsible in turning off the light in their My First Microscope.
- The stage is big enough to accomodate small and big specimens, again I'm referring to toys, flowers, crayons, etc. Don't expect to fit a book or a playhouse on the stage! LOL. Bigger things means a whole flower, a Barbie doll, a cookie or the likes. :)
- The microscope is made out of plastic and is light enough to be carried around by my 3 year old. It's perfect to bring on the go because it only comes in 1 piece.

Did I see something I don't like with the GeoSafari Jr.'s My First Microscope?

I actually like it because it's a great educational toy which introduces early science. I just wish the stage light has an automatic shut-off function because my daughters don't really remember turning their toys off.

You can purchase the My First Microscope by GeoSafari Jr. on Amazon for $18.80 with free shipping if you have Prime.

Encourage Early Counting With Shelby's Snack Shack Game #educationalinsights

ShelbysSnackShackGame.jpg
How did I introduce my daughters to early learning? By songs, rhymes, educational games and repetition. Songs and rhymes are nice because my daughters learn by listening to them and after a while, singing to the song and rhymes. Educational games help a lot because they have fun playing and at the same time they learn something from the games. Repetition of the names of animals and things, shapes, numbers and letters are just as important because this helped my daughters retain, recognize and associate them with how they look like.

ShelbysSnackShackGame.jpg

The Shelby's Snack Shack Game is an educational game from Educational Insights for children ages 4 to 10. It was a finalist for the 2014 Toy of the Year Award and has won several awards including:
- 2013 Parent's Choice Silver Honor Winner
- Good Housekeeping - Best Family Board Games
- Today's Parents Magazine - The Ultimate Toy Guide (2013)
- Canadian Toy Testing Council - Best Bet Seal

The Game includes the following:
- Colorful Board Game
- Shelby Squeezer
- 40 Bones
- 4 Bowls
- Double Spinner

The rules of the game are very simple and easy to understand that even my 3 year old daughter understood it the first time I explained it to her.

The rules are:
1. Spin the first spinner to determine your play.
2. Spin the second spinner to see how many bones you win or lose.
3. Use the Shelby Squeezer to pick up the bones and put them in your bowl.
4. Collect the most bones in your bowl and you win.

ShelbysSnackShackGame.jpg
When I opened the box, my daughters couldn't wait to set it up. Here are my first impressions of the materials inside:

- The bones were super cute and a bit rubbery.
- The bottom side of the box doubles as the "beach" where the bones are placed. It's very colorful and the pictures were lively.
- The Shelby Squeezer is also very cute (I kept saying it's cute but they're all cute!). It's very easy to use and my daughters can hold it properly.
- The feeding bowls are made out of cardboard and are durable.
- The double spinner is also made out of thick cardboard. It's also durable and as of now, still non-bendable. :)

My daughters insisted on doing a video on how they played the Shelby Snack Shack Game. :) They've been watching egg surprise videos and how-to videos on you tube and were inspired to do their own videos. They'll be very happy if you clicked like on their video. :)

Okay my thoughts about the Shelby Snack Shack Game:

- This game is perfect for preschoolers as well as older children (my 6 year old loved it!). It's very simple and the rules are very easy to follow. Both my 3 and 6 year old daughter had fun playing.
- Although my 3 year old daughter can already count up to 15, the Shelby Snack Shack game teaches young children counting from 1 to 5 through repetition. The spinner only has up to 5 as the maximum number of bones to be collected or stolen.
- The game is perfect with minimal supervision meaning, I can do the laundry, cook or clean the house while my daughter plays this game.
- 40 bones is too much for 2 players. My daughters took almost an hour to finish a game. Although they didn't get bored and wanted to play again, I would suggest cutting the number bones in half, that's 20, to make a game faster. :)
- No batteries needed! In today's times, children's toys are almost always battery operated. This is a simple and fun game with no batteries needed!
- The Shelby Squeezer helps in improving dexterity and hand-eye coordination. My 3 year old is left-handed and didn't have any problems with using Shelby to get bones.
- Early addition and subtraction is introduced. In "taking away" a bone or "getting a bone", my 3 year old was introduced to the early concept of addition and subtraction. My 6 year old already knows how to add and subtract small numbers so this is particularly helpful to younger children.
- The game is easy to set-up and clean up. Since my daughters know how to play the game already, they just take it out and set it up and they play together.
- Since there's only 1 Shelby Squeezer, my daughters needed to share and take turns. This is a problem for both of them and with this game, they were very happy to share and take turns to use Shelby.

I don't have anything bad to say about the Shelby's Snack Shack Game because it's a simple yet fun and educational which is very easy to understand. It's perfect for young children and encourages early counting.

You can purchase the Shelby's Snack Shack Game on Amazon for $15.55 with free shipping if you have Prime.

Encourage Active Play With Pancake Pile-Up! Game from Educational Insights

EducationalInsightsPancakePileUpGame.jpg
As a mom of 2 girls, ages 3 and 6, I constantly look for ways to get my daughters moving. With the technology and gadgets available today, it's getting harder and harder for me to make my daughters play games which doesn't involve a tablet or a laptop. So what do I do? We go to the playground so that they can run around and play, I put on a DVD with children's songs so they can dance around, or look for toys which will make them move.

EducationalInsightsPancakePileUpGame.jpg
When they saw the Pancake Pile-Up box, my daughters couldn't wait to open it. Why? Because both of them LOVE to help me when I'm in the kitchen.

EducationalInsightsPancakePileUpGame.jpg
Here are the contents of the Pancake Pile-Up Game:

- 10 2.5" pancakes in 5 different flavors - (2 strawberries, 2 blueberries, 2 bananas, 2 plains and 2 chocolate chips)
- 2 Spatulas
- 2 Cardboard Plates
- 2 Butters
- 10 Order Cards
- 10 Griddle game board
- Instruction Booklet

Below is a brief summary of what the Pancake Pile-Up game is about.
EducationalInsights.jpg
The moment I opened the box, I immediately heard these phrases "Aww! How cuuute!", "They look delicious!" and a lot more from my daughters. They each claimed a spatula and a plate and couldn't wait for the instructions on how to play the game.
EducationalInsightsPancakePileUpGame.jpg
The instructions were very easy to understand and I only have to explain them to my daughters once. Both my 3 and 6 year old daughters understood how to play the game the first time I told them the rules.

Above is a video on how to play the Pancake Pile-Up Game. We modified the game a bit and didn't include the running. :)

So what do I think of the Pancake Pile-Up! Game? Here's a brief summary.

I love how cute the pancakes and the spatulas are. Those were the first things I noticed inside the box. The pancakes are soft and squeezable and the mini spatulas are the perfect size for my daughters' hands.

I love how easy the instructions were. The game is recommended for children age 4 to 12 but my 3 year old daughter understood how to play this game easily.

The game can be modified in a lot of ways. I opted out of the relay game when we tried it inside our home and my daughters had a blast as well! I'm saving the relay game outside our home where they can run. :)

The game doesn't need batteries! Most of my daughters' toys need batteries. It's such a relief that this fun and educational game is very simple yet fun!

My daughters used these to play pretend cooking. Since they love "helping" me in the kitchen, they loved playing pretend cooking with these pancakes and butters. :)

This helped with gross motor skills, corrdination and balance. My 6 year old daughter didn't have any problems with scooping the pancakes with the spatula and stacking them up in the right way. My 3 year old daughter on the other hand, still needs some practice to stack the pancakes up the right way. I do love that they can follow the order cards properly.

Easy clean-up because there are only a few pieces included in the game

I can honestly say that the Pancake Pile-Up! game is a simple yet fun game/toy for kids. It's a nice break from all those apps, gadgets and other technology and my daughters definitely loves this.

You can purchase the Pancake Pile-Up! Game on Amazon for $17.99 with free shipping.
