The Biggest Story: How The Snake Crusher Brings Us Back To The Garden Book Review + #Giveaway 9/24 US/CAN

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Hardcover: 132 pages
Publisher: Crossway (August 31, 2015)

In The Biggest Story, Kevin DeYoung - a best-selling author and father of six - leads kids and parents alike on an exciting journey through the Bible, connecting the dots from the garden of Eden to Christ's death on the cross to the new heave and new earth.  With powerful illustrations by award-winning artist Don Clark, this imaginative retelling of the Bible's core message-how the Snake Crusher brings us back to the garden-will draw children into the biblical story, teaching them that God's promises are even bigger and better than we think.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Kevin DeYoung is senior pastor at University Reformed Church in East Lansing, Michigan.  He blogs at the Gospel Coalition and has authored or coauthored numerous well-known books, including Just Do SomethingThe Hole in Our HolinessCrazy Busy, and Taking God At His Word.  He lives with his wife and their 6 children in Central Michigan.
ABOUT THE ILLUSTRATOR:

Don Clark is an artist and the cofounder of Invisible Creature, a widely respected and award-winning design studio in Seattle that has worked with clients such as Target, Nike, LEGO, and WIRED magazine.  He lives with his wife and their 3 children, 4 goats, 12 chickens, and 1 crazy dog on a farm just outside the city limits.
MY REVIEW:

Sometimes, my daughters would ask me why they don't see God and no matter how I explain to them who God is, there are times when they couldn't understand what I'm saying. Yes, it is hard to explain what faith and belief is to young kids, like in the case of my 4 and 7 year old, so I when I read the book, The Biggest Story: How The Snake Crusher Brings us Back to the Garden, I was so happy at how this book made the stories in the Bible simple and easy to comprehend.

The book came in a hardbound style and the pages are glossy. The story started with the story of Adam and Eve until the death of Jesus Christ. At the end of the story, there is a moral which is nice because it briefly and simply explained what faith and belief is. The words used on this book is appropriate for young children and the illustrations were very nice. I love how it simplified other stories in the Bible like Noah's ark and etc.

This is a great bedtime book and a great way to make young children understand who God is and how He watches over us and guides us.

Glimpses Of Destiny By B. Pine Book Review

Glimpses_Of_Destiny_By_B.Pine.jpg
ABOUT THE BOOK:

The wards are children no longer...

The Academy wards are now full-grown and powerful, but have yet to complete school. And although they have proven themselves more than worthy of their destinies, friendships are now put to the test. Rohen and Jamu's rivalry reaches a critical peak, and Galen is drawn into their conflict. Academy politics drives a wedge between Ben and Jania. Megan's feelings for Yar begin to waver as her heart strays. A spurned love exacts deadly revenge while a secret crush threatens to grow dangerously out of hand. And as the young humans question their relationships and self-identifies, the Draca continue their deadly schemes to woo the wards they can control, and destroy the ones they can't.

The Draca Wards face difficult and sometimes heartbreaking choices during the next few months. And as Rohen and Jamu approach graduation and their time at Espies comes to an end, the wards begin to realize that their adventurous lives are only just beginning.

MY REVIEW:

The book, Glimpses of Destiny written by B. Pine is the fourth series in The Draca Wards Saga. I haven't read the first three books in this saga so I was quite lost on the first two chapters of the book. After that, I began accustomed and familiar to the characters of the book and I can say that I caught on to what the book is about.

The book, Glimpses of Destiny, is a must read for those who love dragons, supernatural and paranormal beings. This book led me to a world of magic, friendship, trust, adventure, love and betrayal. Each character on this book has a different personality and I love the budding romance between Jamu and Galen.

This is a nice read and although I only saw the formation of a stronger bond and friendship between Galen and Rohen, I kind of felt that there was something special in their relationship which I can't wait to see on the next book in this series.

Morning_Magic_By_Giles_Smith.jpg
ABOUT THE BOOK:

It's the first day of a new school year for Emily, a trainee witch. After a hasty breakfast she rushes to her room to get dressed. After all, she doesn't want to be late on day one! But her clothing seems to have other ideas. Her chest of drawers is feeling grumpy and won't open. Her socks don't want to be worn and make a mad dash for freedom. And her witch's hat is simply missing in action. Despite these delays, can she figure out the 'Get Dressed' spell and still make it to school on time?

Morning Magic is Book 1 of the new Everyday Magic Series. This series will be the basis for a new programme of sight-word tools for kids aged 5-7, where the main stories will be developed into small self-readers packed with sight words.

Morning_Magic_By_Giles_Smith.jpg
MY REVIEW:

The book, Morning Magic by Giles Smith, took my daughters to the first-day-of-school struggles of Emily, a young witch trainee. My 6 year old daughter read the book by herself with ease and understood it while my 4 year old daughter listened. The illustrations were colorful, vivid and nice which caught my daughters' attention. My 6 year old daughter was laughing while she was reading the book because she could relate to how Emily struggled finding misplaced things in the morning and getting ready for school because honestly, shh, we have the same situation in the morning minus the magic and spells of course. :)

I like that the story has a rhyming way and that the words used are simple and are easily understood by my 2 daughters. It's a nice, short book which my daughters loved.

MY REVIEW:

I've loved reading books ever since I was in elementary school and I remember I had a collection of Sweet Valley Kids book and moved on as I got older to the Sweet Valley University books. After that, I moved on to reading novels and can finish 2 books in a day. After getting married and having my 2 daughters, my priorities have changed and of course have to be a wife and mom first. So, to cut my story short, I'd love it if my daughters inherit my love for reading because I think this would help them widen their imagination, vocabulary and a lot more.

When I received the book, A Horse for Kate, I was the one who read it to them every night. I would read 1 to 2 chapters to them since they can't read this type of book yet. They're 4 and 6 yet they understood the concept and story of the book.

I like how the book, A Horse for Kate, taught my daughters kindness, friendship, trust and a bit of mystery. There are some words which are new to them so I also like that they learned new words after I finished reading this book to them

Maris: The Brotherhood Files By Isaian Morrison Ebook Review

ABOUT THE BOOK:

She gave me her blood, and my life changed forever.

Anastasia. My sire. The only influential figure in my already-fragile life. She did this to me. She caused all the pain and suffering. There was a time I believed I owed her everything. After all, she gave me immortality and the never-ending thirst for the energy contained in the blood of my victims.
But now vampires hunt me and the humans want to use me as their personal weapon. They believe I'm some kind of apotropaic figurine that can damn all Deamhan and force us back into hell where we belong. Me? I just want to live. I just want to be Maris. That way, the only one I can damn is myself.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Isaiyan Morrison was born and raised in Minnesota. She moved to San Diego, California while in the Navy. After serving four years of active duty, she moved to Los Angeles.

Besides writing, she also likes to read, surf the internet, watch movies, and play video games. She likes warm drinks, pico de gallo, and her love for cilantro is legendary.

She is the author of The Deamhan Chronicles, psychic vampires living in a world filled with their sanguine enemies.

MY REVIEW:

I've always loved books and novels about supernatural beings. I'm quite vocal about that and I've already read quite a number of books from this genre from different authors.

When I read the synopsis of the book, Maris: The Brotherhood Files, I was immediately intrigued by the book. The word sire and vampires had me curious about the book. When I read it, I was furhter intrigued by the characters of the book.

Aside from vampires, the book, Maris: The Brotherhood Files by Isaiyan Morrison, focused on Maris, a Deamhan (yes, not a vampire but a different class of supernatural being who also feeds on blood) who is also the main protagonist on the book. She holds the key or answer to the existence of all Deamhan so a lot of other classes of supernatural beings are also after her. There are also some Ancients and other Deamhan who vowed to protect her.

At first, I was quite confused by all the classes of supernatural beings there is in the book but, at the end of the book, there is a list and definition of all the classes of supernatural beings.

I like how Maris' character developed throughout the book and I can feel her feelings and confusion. As per her knowledge, that Deamhan can't love, I like how I felt her feelings for the Deamhans she bonded with, although she doesn't know it.

The book is also a bit graphic and more dark because the characters doesn't care for human kind and they feed on humans without remorse.

I like how unique and different this is from other vampire novels I've read and I like the twists and the complexity of the characters. This is a must read for fans of vampire novels.

Let's_Change_That_Book.jpg
ABOUT THE BOOK:

What if we had to change the ways we normally did things just to help someone who really needed us? Could we do that? Watch how Felix asks for help from the most unlikely characters and see their reactions. Will they all pitch in and help or will they refuse?
Let's_Change_That_Book.jpg
MY REVIEW:

I love reading books to my daughters which teaches a lesson at the end. After reading the Let's Change That! If Animals Can, We Can, Too! book by Bashar Salame, I was impressed at how the author tackled a very important lesson in a simple manner which my daughters understood.

The illustrations on the book is very captivating and my daughters had fun looking at the illustrations while I'm reading the book. The colors are vibrant and clear and I like how well the story is written.

In a subtle way, this book taught my daughters how to be helpful to those in need and to ask others for help if we need it. It also taught my daughters how not to judge based on appearance and not to be so dependent on how and what most people think the norm is. It also taught about teamwork and to trust other people as well.

The Story Of King Jesus By Ben Irwin Children's Book Review + #Giveaway 5/25 US

The_Story_Of_King_Jesus.jpg
ABOUT THE BOOK:

Many Bible storybooks offer stand-alone stories, which reduces biblical narrative to moral fables rather than showing how they are a part of a larger redemptive drama. Designed for children ages 4 to 8, The Story of King Jesus is the gospel told in a single story-one designed to be read in one sitting. The thoughtful illustrations nurture a child's spiritual curiosity and draw them deeper into biblical truth.
This unique book also includes a letter to parents introducing the concept of the gospel as a story and offering suggestions for how to use the book with their children.
The_Story_Of_King_Jesus.jpg
ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Ben Irwin is coauthor of Fascinating People of the Bible and one of the creators of The Story: The Bible as One Continuing Story of God and His People. He studies theology at Grand Rapids Theological Seminary and spent several years as a writer for World Vision. He and his wife, Amanda, love in Grand Rapids, Mich., with their two daughters.

ABOUT THE ILLUSTRATOR:

Nick Lee drew a lot when he was little and simply never stopped. He lives in Colorado Springs with his wife and two kids. This is his first children's book.
The_Story_Of_King_Jesus.jpg
MY REVIEW:

I'm proud to have grown up in a Catholic family and to have studied in a Catholic school since elementary to highschool as well as study in a Catholic University in the Philippines. I was introduced to the Bible when I was in Grade 5 (that's when I transferred to an all-girls' Catholic school) and learned the Bible and its verses. So, when we moved here in the US, we can't afford to send our daughters to a Catholic school (because it's much more expensive) so it's up to me and hubby to slowly introduce them to praying and the Bible.

My 2 daughters, who are 4 and 6, already knows how to pray every night and we go to church every Saturday evening (for the Sunday Mass). They already know God and Jesus but they're still sometimes confused on who They are, specially when they don't see Him physically. So, I look for books which are meant for younger children so that they can understand who God and Jesus is in a simple way.

The book, The Story of King Jesus by Ben Irwin is a great book for young children because it made the Beginning and Jesus' story simpler and more understandable by children. It summarized the more complicated Bible verses into a children's story book. My daughters were so delighted when I read the book to them and they loved looking at the pretty illustrations as well.

This book covered the Beginning of God's Creation until Jesus' death and His resurrection and finding redemption in the future. In such a short story, the book made it much clearer to my daughters who God and Jesus is and in a small way, helped increase their faith.

You can find The Story of King Jesus at the David C Cook website which is a leading nonprofit resource provider serving the global church with life-transforming, Christ-centered materials. Learn more about it HERE.

As a leading light of American Pulp Fiction through the 1930s and '40s, he is further among the most influential authors of the modern age. Indeed, from Ray Bradbury to Stephen King, there is scarcely a master of imaginative tales who has not paid tribute to L. Ron Hubbard.

MY REVIEW:

The Writers of the Future Volume 31 is different from the usual novels I read, which for me is refreshing. First of all, this is a compilation of short, fictional and fantasy stories. Each story is written in a short but interesting manner. The book has a variety of fantasy story, from humans to supernatural and evolved humans and extraterrestrial beings. I like how short each story is because I can read them quickly and finish it in 1 sitting.

Even though the stories are short, they are well written and has that element of suspense and thrill. I like how the authors did that and I also like the illustrations of the characters in each story. I can visualize the characters well but the illustrations are a confirmation of how I visualize them.

Over all, I like the Writers of the Future and I like how unique it is from the usual novels and books I read.

When I got married and gave birth to my 2 daughters, my reading halted a bit because I became busy with being a stay-at-home mom. Of course I love being a wife and a mom and I do miss reading novels regularly but I wouldn't change what I have now.

When I received the Love Inspired Series, I was drawn to the cover of each book. Each cover of the book is wholesome, innocent and nice. I received the following titles:
- The Single Dad Finds a Wife
- Winning The Teacher's Heart
- The Doctor's Second Chance
- Bachelor to the Rescue
- A Firefighter's Promise
- The Rancher Takes a Bride

I haven't read all 6 books yet because I don't have much extra time at the moment so I chose to read the first title which caught my attention first, which is the Firefighter's Promise. The books are thinner than what I usually read and the story is shorter. I think this is an advantage because I can easily finish the book within a short period of time. I take the chance to read the book when I'm waiting for my 1st grade daughter to come out from school.

I noticed that the Love Inspired Book I'm reading at the moment, which is the Firefighter's Promise, is wholesome as the cover is. I would be honest that I love to read romance novels too, but this book is different in a way that the story is innocent and romantic at the same time.

I can't wait to read the other Love Inspired books I received and I like how the current book I'm reading is giving me a feel-good feeling

The Adventures of Pajama Girl and the Coronation of the Cupcake Queen Book Review + Giveaway 4/20 US/CAN

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Hardcover; 32 pages

A cute, illustrated story about a girl's imagination and her magical pajamas. In this adventure, Ellie's cupcake pajamas pave the way for she and her Sis to take a journey to a land filled with all kinds of sweet treats. Their journey quickly turns into an adventure to help the Cupcake Queen find the missing sprinkles needed for her coronation ceremony. In searching for the missing sprinkles, Ellie and Sis uncover a life lesson that is important for every child to learn.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Sandra Hagee Parker lives in San Antonio, Texas with her husband, Ryan, and their daughters, Olivia and Elliana — the original pajama girls. A practicing attorney, Sandy is also a part of the music ministry at Cornerstone Church where she and her husband are leaders.

When not working or writing, Sandy enjoys traveling with her family and mastering the art of making Pancakes à la Pajama Girl with her two girls.

MY REVIEW:

My daughters love it every time I read a bedtime book to them. When they saw the Adventures of Pajama Girl and the Coronation of the Cupcake book, they told me that the cover of the book was pretty. I thought the cover of the book is pretty too because of the pink, sparkly title and the pastel colored illustration.

When I opened the book and started to read, both my daughters were so intent on listening to the story. The characters in the book reminded me of my daughters, who are 4 and 6 because the main characters are also sisters. As I was reading the book, they had mixed reactions like "ooohhs" and "awwwww" specially when it came to the part where the sprinkles were gone.

There's also a part where Ellie and her sister were praying before they went to bed. We also pray before we go to sleep so my daughters were quick to compare it with our bedtime routine.

At the end of the story, I explained to them the moral of the story. My 6 year old daughter told me that it wasn't nice and good to steal and it isn't right. I love how The Adventures of Pajama Girl and the Coronation of the Cupcake Queen made it simple for my daughters to understand the commandment "Thou Shalt Not Steal".

This is a very nice book with very nice illustrations. My 2 daughters loved this book and I like how they understood, in a simpler way, how it's not right to steal other people's things.

Jesus Sees Us Doll And Book Review + $10 Discount Code #JesusSeesUs

About the doll:
Appropriate for Ages 2-6+ / SRP $35

How do you introduce your child to Jesus?

Imagine your children took the same interest and wonder in Jesus and the Christian message as they did in princesses, fairies, and elves… Jesus Sees Us is a packaged Jesus Christ doll that has the same comforting power as a child’s favorite toy or blanket, but is rooted in lessons that last a lifetime. Children respond to the comfort of tangible items when they are young, so why not make that item Jesus and the comfort He gives to ignite their faith? The accompanying book is a tool to assist you in engaging your child and starting the conversation about Jesus’ teachings.

By the time a child turns three years old, he or she already has the capability to relate to Jesus. Children can understand that, like them, Jesus was a baby with parents who loved Him. They can understand that Jesus grew up to be a man who loved everyone and taught people to do the same. Children become excited and inquisitive when they can master these facts, ultimately making them more open to deeper conversations and ideas about faith.
The Jesus Sees Us doll is an integral part of fostering your child’s initial introduction to Jesus. Even though we talk to our children about Jesus or take them to Sunday services, they are not always able to understand the importance of the Christian message. Jesus Sees Us is a tool that makes Jesus, His teachings, and the concept of faith both relatable and positive to young children by introducing Him as the loving and forgiving presence in our lives. The doll becomes the tangible connection to the stories and lessons in the book. He is the touchable source of comfort that a child can relate to. The Jesus Sees Us doll has a soft body and a warm, welcoming face. His arms and hands are open, inviting your child to hold him, engage with him, and pray with him. The Jesus Sees Us doll allows your child to “play out” the valuable and timeless lessons of the Bible.

MY REVIEW:

I grew up in a Catholic family, studied in a Catholic school since elementary until high school and I graduated in a Catholic University. I was introduced to the Bible, God, Jesus, the church, and praying when I was young and I'm grateful for that because I grew up with a strong faith. That's why, I've also started introducing God, Jesus, praying, and the church to my daughters. We go to mass every Sunday and I teach them simple prayers.

When my 4 year old daughter saw the Jesus Sees Us Doll, she immediately asked me if she can open it. She loves dolls and she immediately loved the Jesus Christ doll. She calls the Jesus Sees Us Doll "Papa Jesus" and she brings it everywhere she goes.

My daughters have a hard time believing in something that they don't see so, they often ask the question why. With the Jesus Sees Us Doll, they were able to visualize who Jesus is. The book included has simpler and shorter verses from the Bible. Instead of the original verses, it was shortened and simplified so that my daughters understood it easily. I also like the common and simple examples on how they can live life like Jesus.

The Jesus Sees Us Doll & Book is a great gift for young children to introduce them to Jesus and how he lived. I like how my daughters love the doll and the book as well.

Right now, the Jesus Sees Us Doll & Book has a $10 off promo HERE.
