As part of the launch of Happy Meal Books, McDonald’s is collaborating with Reading is Fundamental (RIF), the largest children’s literacy non-profit in the U.S., to help more children and their families discover the joy of reading. RIF will distribute 100,000 Happy Meal Books to children who do not have easy access to books.
There would be 4 books to collect and the titles are:
-
The Goat Who Ate Everything
-
Deana’s Big Dreams
-
Ant, Can’t
-
Doddi the Dodo Goes to Orlando
And the "Ant Can't" video read by celebrity friends Colin Kaepernick, Alex Morgan, Mark Consuelos, Trevor Jackson, DJ Irie, and Daym Drops.
It doesn't stop here because starting November 1, there will be an e-book available on the McPlay App each month. The first e-book would be The World’s Greatest Cities from the DK’s Amazing World Series.
Kids would be able to read and interact with the story in the McPlay App.
The book "The Goat Who Ate Everything" also has the interactive digital version on the McPlay app and they will be able to access and interact with the digital version there.
The fun doesn't stop because you can also download the Happy meal Books as well as the DK Publishing e-books at the McDonald's website. There would also be Spanish versions of the McDonald's Happy Meal books on McDonalds.com and MeEncanta.com
You can read more information about the McDonald's book here. :)
I am very excited about these books because my daughters love it when I read books to them (they are 2 and 5 years old). My daughters have A LOT of happy meal toys collected throughout the years and in my experience, they would only play with the happy meal toys for a few days and then they'd put them in their toy box (of course I still buy them the happy meal because they love the food and nothing can compare to their happy faces when they get the toy. :)) and then completely forget about it. Now with these limited time books, we can read them over and over again and add it to our small library of reading books.
Now for the fun part, my VERY FIRST giveaway!! (YAY!! :))
5 Winners will each receive a Family Reading pack with all four books, a McDonald's blanket, a reading light and a McDonald's Arch gift card. Now isn't that fun?! My giveaway would start November 4, 2013 at 12:00 AM PST and will end November 8, 2013 at 12:00 AM PST. This will be open to US residents only. The prize cannot be shipped to a P.O. box address. Winners will be notified by email and will have 24 hours to respond before a new winner is selected. I am not responsible for prize fulfillment. My role is to give the sponsor the information of the winner and they will directly ship the prize to the winner. I am a member of the Family Arches Community and I will be given the same prize pack.. All opinions are my own and are not influenced in any way. I do not share or sell information and all information shared with me will solely be used for the prize shipment.

I love the idea of swaping out toys for books!!
ReplyDeleteI think it's great, but they are going to have to have books for older children as well!
ReplyDeleteOh that's a nice idea. My daughters are just 2 and 5 so they still enjoyed the books.
DeleteI love they are doing this! The toys always end up getting lost or thrown away, but my son actually likes books more than his toys!
ReplyDeleteI agree. My daughters have collected a lot of happy meal toys and if they haven't lost it, all of the happy meal toys would be at their toy box. :)
DeleteI think it is a great idea.
ReplyDeleteI love it. Toys are played with in my house for about a day. My kids, however, read books all the time and will reread books daily.

ReplyDeleteI'm glad they are replacing books for toys. Kids these days have too many toys.
ReplyDeleteI think it is a much better idea more educational
ReplyDeleteI like it but I don't think my kids will like it at first!
ReplyDeleteLove this idea!! My son's turning into a good little reader and though it won't be as exciting for him as those little toys that end up everywhere, these will be put to good use.
ReplyDeleteI think it's a great idea and it's important that kids learn to read!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea!
ReplyDeleteI think it's a great idea to encourage reading.
ReplyDeleteHi! Thanks so much for sharing this at Such Fun to Give! I love the idea of them replacing toys with books in the Happy Meals. Most of the happy meal toys (with some exceptions) get about 1 day of use and then clutter up the toy box, but some of the books we've gotten from Chic File have become family favorites, and I'm glad to see McDonalds trying this too!
ReplyDeleteI think its a great idea honestly - the toys aren't that great any more.
ReplyDeleteits a great idea!
