Have you ever tried Spirulina? Honestly, this is the first time I've tried it. Sari Foods sent me a pouch of their 100% Spirulina Powder to try and before I head on to my review, I want to share with you a product description from Sari Foods about their Spirulina Powder.

Now let's head on to my review. :)

The 100% Spirulina Powder by Sari Foods arrived in a dark green resealable pouch bag. I also received a free e-book on food recipes I can try with the Spirulina Powder. I opened it and similar to all other food products I try, I inspect and smell it first. The Spirulina Powder has a dark green color and the powder is finely ground. I'm gonna be honest because the odor of the Spirulina Powder isn't really pleasing to the nose. The powder as well as the color of the powder sticks on the hand easily and I had to wash my hands to remove the stain. I was honestly a bit scared of trying this out primarily because of the smell.

When I had the guts to try it, I added a teaspoon (I started with a small amount first) of the Sari Foods' Spirulina Powder to my chocolate protein shake. My chocolate protein shake became a greenish/brown because of the Spirulina powder instead of just light brown. I smelled my protein shake and noticed that the unpleasant smell has subsided and I can only smell chocolate on my shake. I did try it out afterwards and I tasted something a bit odd, like a bit earthy, with my protein shake but tolerable and drinkable. :)

The Sari Foods' 100% Spirulina Powder doesn't taste as bad as it smelled. It tasted a bit odd at first, maybe because I'm not used to the taste but I love the health benefits. I would gradually increase the serving size as I get accustomed to the taste. Just a tip, don't be discouraged in trying it because of the smell of the powder. The scent will subside when you add it to the food you're preparing. :)
